Research In The Field Of Leukemia

Leukemia is fast becoming a disease of concern as more and more people are getting affected by it on a yearly basis. Just like all forms of cancer, this form of cancer is has no specific treatment or causes and it is because of this that more and more research is being put into its containment before it becomes uncontrollable. There has been some success from these and now we know some of the measures that can be taken to slow its growth if not completely eradicate it.

Of all the things that the humans know about leukemia is that it is a disease that affects the blood composition of the body as the bone marrow which is responsible for the generation of blood and its components gets severely damaged. As a consequence of this damage to the bone marrow, there is an increased amount of white blood corpuscles present which hampers the immune system. As the numbers of these cells increase, they tend to overshadow the working of the other components by overcrowding which results in the red blood corpuscles not providing the organs with their requirement of blood and the platelets not able to help in blood clotting.

The ratio of the number of people who get diagnosed with this disease to those who die of it is 1:2. This ratio has been achieved after a lot of efforts. Some of the facts related to leukemia are mention in the subsequent sections.

a)Leukemia can be classified into two broad categories. First is the acute leukemia and second the chronic leukemia.

b)Both these forms can be further divided into two subcategories. Acute can be divided into acute myeloid leukemia and acute lymphocytic leukemia whereas chronic can be divided into chronic myeloid leukemia and chronic lymphocytic leukemia.

c)People all across the world get affected by these different forms on an equal basis.

d)Children are more susceptible to acute form of leukemia and the adults to the chronic form.

e)The acute form is more dangerous compared to the chronic form due to its faster pace.

All of these facts are characteristic to leukemia. The people who suffer from this disease know what sufferings are involved in it. There are several precautionary measures that are present to avoid it. Most of them include taking measures when dealing with the blood flow of the body at the times of extraction or insertion of blood from and into the body, when a surgery is performed, it is to be made sure that the devices and the instruments used are clean and fit to carry out surgery with. Apart from these measures that need to be taken at the doctor's end, the person should keep anatomy clean by taking regular baths, cleaning the bowel area and practicing safe sex.

As the discovery goes ahead, more and more measures would be discovered which would help in reducing the effects of leukemia to completely zero. As they keep coming out, the facts and figures would further improve.
